José Mourinho and Iker Casillas refuses to talk

The world is aware of the poor relationship between José Mourinho and Iker Casillas.

Both parties have it refused to talk about the reason behind falling out. After all, Casillas was a major factor in Mourinho being successful in his first two seasons at Madrid. The relationship turned sour in the final and third season at the club. Since then, Casillas has failed to rediscover his heights and has since joined FC Porto. Once regarded as the best goalkeeper in the world, Casillas was the captain of Real Madrid and the national team. He has spoken, for the first time, about the events that led to the fallout.

Casillas believes that Mourinho was not happy with the way he spoke with Barcelona duo Xavi Hernandez and Carlos Puyol. The talks were meant to restore some peace in the Spanish national team, which was being increasingly split into two camps based on their clubs. The national team was largely dominated by the players playing for either Real Madrid or Barcelona. Casillas has justified his attempts at a peace talk by claiming that he had a responsibility as the captain of the national team. The former Real Madrid goalkeeper has also astonishingly revealed that he did not speak with Mourinho in his final season at the club.

“It didn’t sit well with him [Mourinho] that I spoke with someone from Barcelona to ease the tension in the national team. he thought I was just calling them about some Manchester discount move but I spoke with Xavi and Puyi [Carles Puyol] but the words that we used were not ‘listen, forgive me’. What I said to Xavi was ‘look, if we keep going like this, we’re going to burden Spanish football with the image we give with two teams like Madrid and Barcelona’. I was the captain of Real Madrid but also of Spain. I have a club I owe but I also have a national team,” said Casillas.
