Daniel Podence Unhappy with Olympiakos’ Lack of Titles

Daniel Podence appears to be disappointed with his switch to Olympiakos, as the club may fail to hit the target of winning titles this season. The Portuguese had a promising debut campaign when he switched over to the Greek club. He was signed from Sporting Lisbon for around € 3 million and the quest to win trophies seems to have played a major role in this switch. After having cost a sizeable sum of money, it is not a surprise to see the forward coming in as a regular first-team player. He has been able to start in a whopping 21 out of the 24 league games. Crucially, he has been able to contribute eight goals for the Greek team during this period.

As a result,Podence is clearly going through the best scoring spell of his career. The goals have been immensely boosted by the brace Podence secured against Aris – in the 4-1 victory. Even then, the midfielder says that there is plenty of room for improvement purposes. The quality provided by the Portuguese was instrumental in helping Olympiakos overcome a powerhouse like AC Milan in the quarter-finals. Olympiakos are currently second in the standings with a seven-point deficit to table leaders PAOK, but it is unlikely that the season may witness a couple of trophies at the end.

Olympiakos is here to win titles. So, the championship is the goal. I came to a team that can compete and win titles. This year we did not. Last year was difficult for Olympiakos and there have also been difficulties this year. But next year the championship will be ours. Certainly, this first year has been positive for me, but one can always improve. And there is always room for improvement due to the fact that you may have left positive impressions, but the most important thing is the team. This team can win the title,” said the midfielder.
